The Character of Zircon
For centuries, Sri Lanka has been renowned as the 'Island of Jewels,' yielding some of the world's finest and most historically significant zircons. Our deep-rooted connections with local artisanal miners allow us to source exceptional rough stones directly from the earth.
Each zircon offered through IRIS Ceylon Gems is carefully evaluated by our master gemologists for its inherent beauty, optical phenomena, and enduring value. We prioritize natural, untreated stones that express the true character of Ceylon's unique geological heritage.

Notable Varieties
The zircon family encompasses several distinct varieties, each valued for its unique optical properties and coloration.
High Zircon
Fully crystalline zircon that has not suffered natural radiation damage, exhibiting maximum brilliance and fire.
White Zircon
A pure, colorless zircon historically used as a diamond substitute due to its strong optical dispersion.
Blue Zircon
A popular, bright pastel to vibrant teal blue variety, often achieved through gentle, traditional heating.
Green Zircon
A rare, often unheated variety highly prized by collectors for its natural, earthy green tones.
Orange Zircon
A vibrant, fiery golden-orange to reddish-orange zircon with exceptional sparkle.
What to Consider
Colour & Saturation
Colorless varieties should be completely free of brown or yellow tinges, while fancy colors like Fanta orange and green are valued for their vivid, highly saturated hues.
Clarity
Should be highly transparent to allow for maximum light dispersion, though rare green zircons may naturally exhibit slightly different internal characteristics.
Cut & Brilliance
Faceted as round brilliants or ovals to take advantage of the stone's high refractive index.
Treatment & Origin
Blue and colorless zircons are often gently heated to produce their color from natural brown rough, whereas rare green zircons are often prized in their completely unheated state. To ensure complete peace of mind, every gemstone we offer is independently lab-certified by recognized gemological authorities.
